Abstract:
Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) technology is an efficient technology which has a practical aspect of conversion of chemical energy in organic compounds directly to electrical energy through degradative activities of microorganisms. MFCs can be used in wastewater treatment plants with simultaneous generation of electricity. A lot of research has already been done and different types of MFCs have been constructed which have varied applications in addition to electricity generation. This article presents a short review on MFCs stating its working, types and applications with broader view on wastewater treatment.

When Big Data Is Watching You

Is the answer to our feeble human minds needing to grapple with increasing quantities of big data to stand in a purpose built room immersed in complex data visualisations while wearing an array of sensors that track our physiological reactions? A group of European Commission-backed scientists believe so.
They’re attempting to quantify — and, they claim, enhance — cognition by building a sensor-based data visualisation system that dynamically changes the complexity level of the data on display in response to human triggers, such as gestures, eye movements and heart rate.
The basic concept underpinning this research, which has attracted €6.5 million in European Union funding under the Future and Emerging Technologies Scheme, is that a data display system can be more effective if it is sensitive to the human interacting with it, enabling it to modify what’s on display based on tracking and reacting to human stress signifiers.
The project is called CEEDS — aka Collective Experience of Empathetic Data Systems — and involves a...

Data Security Model Enhancement in Cloud Environment

With the rapid developments across the information technology usage of cloud infrastructure has increased a lot. There are lots of services offered by cloud where data storages occupies the primary stand when compared to rest of the services. Data security across the cloud is the main aspect to be considered while storing the data of any organization across a remote location. There are many parameters to be considered while providing security to cloud integrity, confidentiality and availability. There was ample research done in this context where there are many security models available for all the three aspects discussed. The main aim of the proposed system is to make the cloud data server available by blocking unwanted traffic with a firewall. OPNET simulation is done to evaluate the performance of the cloud data storage and the corresponding security issues. From the overall analysis of the results it is clear that blocking the unwanted web traffic over the cloud storage security has improved a lot in terms of traffic and packet managements.
